One thing before Dec. 31

Hey Reader,

I asked on Instagram recently how people were feeling about Q4. The answer: too much to do, not enough time.

I get it. That feeling is real.

We've piled a lot onto our plates and filled every open space. Going, going, going, and at the end of the day it still doesn't feel like enough got done, even though you were busy all day.

Sure, we've overcommitted. But there's something a little deeper going on too, something I end up getting to with almost every client eventually.

We all have the public list: the things we're visibly working on, the goals we've said out loud. But it's usually the quiet goals, the ones nobody's asking you about, that don't get touched. And that's what actually drives the "not enough" feeling.

It's the thing that nags you on December 31st, looking back on the year, thinking "well, I went another year and still didn't ___."

It's rarely something huge. It's more like "I finally built a sleep routine that works." "I picked up a hobby that actually calms my nervous system." "I spent less time scrolling." "I finally hit publish on the thing I've been sitting on all year."

So here's the exercise for Q4: name your quiet goal. The one that, if you made even a little real progress on it, you'd feel proud of on December 31st.

Write it down somewhere you'll actually see it. Not a New Year's resolution. A right-now declaration.

Then, protect a few minutes for it this week. And then next week, and the following week.

Imagine how proud you'll be on December 31st and let that fuel you 😘

Bonus points if you share your one thing with me. You're 65% more likely to follow through if you tell someone else. I'd love to be that person so you're closer to your goal. Simply hit reply, type your one thing, then 'send' and you'll be more likely to actually follow through.

I write for women business owners who are successful, capable, and quietly exhausted by how much they carry and still somehow wonder if it's enough. I'm Amanda. I'm not your hype girl. I'm the friend who gets it. Subscribe for honest, weekly notes on what it actually feels like to do a lot and still give yourself permission to pause.

Hey Reader, Here's a little joke I often make: you can always tell who's an entrepreneur by how many URLs they own 🤣 Not because we ever use them all. Because we can't stop having ideas. A course we might build one day. A product we might make. A weird little side thing we're pretty sure could work. If you've got a domain sitting somewhere collecting dust for a "someday" idea, you already know exactly what I mean. Here's the thing about being a high-achieving woman with a lot of ideas: the...

A printed calendar page showing months from July to November on lined paper

Hey Reader, Happy September 1st. However you're spending today, there's a good chance some part of you is already feeling the pull to get moving on something. Here's the real-life math: you've got about 12 weeks of real "getting things done" runway before Thanksgiving flips the switch and attention turns toward family, holidays, and slowing down. After that, it's a different season entirely. So instead of a September to-do list, I'd offer one question: If you only let yourself make real...

Professionally designed dorm room

Hey Reader, How many first-day-of-school pictures have you scrolled past lately? From kindergarten backpacks bigger than the kid wearing them to the (genuinely shocking, see below👇) professionally-designed college dorm transformations... it's everywhere right now. Fun to see, but here's the interesting part: that whole back-to-school moment does something for our brains even decades past needing new pencils. It's called the Fresh Start Effect. It shows up at New Year's, on birthdays, and...
